Covering of pink granite received great attention during the pharaohs of Khafre and Menkaure from the Fourth Dynasty. The amount of granite that Khafre used to construct the funerary temple, the valley temple, and the sphinx is about 17,000 cubic meters. Menkaure also covered the bottom of his pyramid in Giza with pink granite stones coming from Aswan and this required about 15,000 cubic meters of granite . This obelisk is the longest Egyptian obelisk, with a length of about 42 m, and a weight of about 1,000 tons. This obelisk was not completed due to a cracked surface.
